建筑防水即为防止水对建筑物某些部位的渗透而从建筑材料上和构造上所采取的措施。防水材料的种类，按原材料来分，有沥青类防水材料、橡胶塑料类防水材料、水泥类防水材料、金属类防水材料。防水涂料有四大类：硬性灰浆、柔性灰浆、丙烯酸酯、单组分聚氨酯。按性状，防水材料还有防水卷材、聚氨酯防水材料、聚合物水泥基防水材料之分。
